URGENT NOTICE !!! : London Region National Pensioners Convention Demo: Friday 21st June 2019 at 12 noon.

From: Darren Lewis <DLewis@tuc.org.uk>
Subject: London Region National Pensioners Convention Demo at BBC – Friday 21 June @ 12 noon

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE ASKING ALL MEMBERS TO ENSURE THAT THEY SEEK TO MAXIMISE THE ATTENDANCE FROM THEIR AFFILIATED GROUPS FOR THE DEMONSTRATION AT THE BBC OFFICES IN PORTLAND PLACE

(nearest tube Oxford Circus 5 min walk) on Friday 21 June @ 12 NOON

please see below the National Press release
The National Pensioners Convention (NPC) is calling on local pensioner groups, trade unions, community groups, students, members of the public, MPs and councillors to make a stand on Friday 21 June against:
1. The BBC’s decision to means-test the TV licence for older people
2. The Government’s decision to make the BBC pay for the concession

We are therefore asking campaigners to gather outside their local BBC at 12 noon next Friday to take part in a protest during the lunchtime. Please download poster here-

-which we are asking people to print out at home and stick to a piece of cardboard – so that you can take it along to the demo. Local banners and placards are of course also welcome, along with whistles, drums and other instruments.
The NPC is absolutely clear – if we fail to protect this concession, the government will begin looking at the winter fuel allowance and the bus pass. That’s why we need as big a demonstration as possible out on the street next Friday.

Thanks for your support.
Neil Duncan-Jordan (National Pensioners Convention)

Conferences and Courses

Conferences and Courses

There are many courses and conferences arranged, uniquely, by the NEU, which you might find interesting and indeed, in the days of diminishing CPD opportunities, crucial to your professional well-being and development.

Surrey NEU is happy to support active members who wish to attend, but we would appreciate prior notice of your intentions.

Please approach the District, in the first instance, before applying for courses, so we can approve, and cost your application. Please don’t be deterred from applying but there is a considerable district financial commitment  involved, and the District needs to stay within budget.

Could members please, initially, contact the Secretary, Tami Honeybourne (details on the website), so we can manage all applications ?

School Cuts : please share as widely as possible !

If you’re receiving this email, then you already know our schools are facing a funding crisis. It’s the biggest funding shortfall in a generation.

But there are millions of families who still don’t know what’s really happening to schools.

Until the Government changes tune, we’ve got to keep putting our message out there to reach every parent in the country.

I’ve made a video to do just that. Will you share it now and tag five parents you know?

I’d rather get on with the business of running my school. But funding cuts are making this impossible at St Joseph’s.

Our governors are having to make difficult decisions that are damaging the quality of education we can provide.

But I am hopeful.

This campaign has already won back £2.2bn for schools thanks to heads, parents and school staff speaking out. Thanks to people like you sharing videos like this.

17,723 schools are still counting on us to keep up the pressure until Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, fully reverses the damaging cuts.

I know we won’t let them down.

Thank you for reading this message,

Andy Ramanandi

Headteacher

St. Joseph’s Primary School

Asbestos Management in Schools : please respond !

Dear colleague

We will shortly be asking a sample of members to complete a survey about asbestos management in their school. A great response will help us better target our campaign to protect staff and children and pressure the Government to do more.

If you are based in a school please complete the survey https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7B8CSLJ  asap.   Also please share this survey link as widely as you can amongst members in your area.  We are hoping to release the findings at Annual Conference.

Best wishes
