Hi, all members of our new super union, NEU. I'm trying to finesse access to our pages +Twitter access. Please keep sending messages. In the meantime, please check on the existing NUTwebsite: "www.surrey.org.uk", for latest news but, hopefully, we can migrate to "www.neu.org.uk" completely, very soon. Fred Greaves
We apolologise for the interruption/delay in this facility. We are in the process of migrating to the NEU capacity. So, we will endeavour to connect you to a Facebook site asap.
New Years Resolution on Workload. Is your head listening? Many heads are taking action to reduce the unsustainable levels of teacher workload - and are moving to a system where they trust teachers to be doing their best for their pupils in the time they have available. Remember these headlines from the Government Independent Review Groups: Marking; “Marking has evolved into an unhelpful burden for teachers, when the time it takes is not repaid in positive impact on pupils’ progress.” (In other words stop triple marking now!) Planning; “School leaders should evaluate how they view planning int heir school. Access to good quality schemes of work should reduce workload rather than create it” (In other words stop asking for weekly lesson plans to be given in) Data; “Data has become an end in itself - divorced from the core purpose of improving outcomes for pupils.” (In other words stop the data that is about holding teachers accountable, rather than helping children learn). Hold an National Education Union meeting in your school. Discuss workload. Agree a few key things you all want to approach the head about. Elect a few people to see the head and represent the views of staff. If you have difficulty contact your local NEU officers. Kevin Courtney: NEU Joint General Secretary
